our approach

Our approach is designed to ensure both experienced and novice singers are equally comfortable and to provide an alternative singing opportunity to that offered by traditional choirs.

Simply Singing

We sing unaccompanied and teach all songs “by ear” (without sheet music) providing teaching CDs so that singers can practice their parts at home.

Eclectic Mix of Songs

Our songs range from African greeting songs, Georgian labour songs, English pop songs, jazz, folk, gospel, slave songs and much more.   We concentrate on finding material with great melodies and beautiful harmonies.

Open to Everyone

There are no auditions and we work at a pace which takes into account the abilities of a range of learners. 

Discover Your Voice

We encourage people to experiment with singing different parts (higher/lower) so that they can better understand their capabilities and the range of their own voices.

Performing

Our choirs learn songs with a view to performing them and we find that having this goal helps to keep the groups focused and provides an incentive to add "polish" to our songs.

FUN !

Whilst we do need to do some hard work to achieve the satisfaction of singing a song well, we are equally concerned that our singers have great fun being part of Vocality and we design each workshop and choir rehearsal with that in mind.
