I will also be revising Forever Young. Please would you attempt the first 2 verses from memory. (Sopranos, I know you have a bit more to learn here. Do your best)

Please also have a look at the way the other verse words fit for Gonna Need That Pure Religion – disregard the confusing end repeat section on the recording, we will be finishing it differently.

We will also be running Wimmoweh with the hand gestures that tell us all what we are singing. Not much then!

If you are in any doubt, these are the songs we are performing in the concert in 3 and a half weeks time!

I am so pleased with the monumental amount of learning in between the sessions that has been going on. It makes such a difference and brings me immeasurable amounts of joy in the sessions – keep up the good work!

It was lovely to see so many of you again on Monday. Ten  Thousand Miles was sounding lovely and I was impressed with the amount of learning that has been going on.

We have three more sessions before our concert week (Monday 19th March) so now is the time to knuckle down so we can really enjoy singing the songs this term rather than worrying about lyrics. I will not be displaying any lyrics for any songs aside from ones I am teaching new next week – so be prepared!

Next week I will be teaching Tsmidao – please learn/revise your part BEFORE the session (pick one if you haven’t sung it before)

I will also be hearing the whole of Hine – please make sure you have listened.

I will also be going over Gospel Train and having a listen to a little bit of everything left from this term.

Just thought I should remind everyone that we are doing an end of term concert at our last session on Thursday 29th March at 8.30pm.  If we could make a quick rehearsal from 7.30pm instead of 8pm that would be great.

Concert dress is in Vocality colours which means the greens, blues, purples of the Vocality starburst logo in block colours (no patterns).  If you haven’t got complete outfits in those colours, you may wear black, grey or neutral with it.

Please do invite your family and friends to see how hard you’ve worked and how great you sound.

So what are you going to do this Thursday?  Well you can have a sing and listen hard to your tracks.  The songs are really coming together but we need to really start getting them from memory, including the other verses that are not sung on the tracks.  So please check your words.

Hine – first section.  Listen to the second section where the sopranos and altos start the tune at Tama.

Ten Thousand Miles – 1st and 2nd verses.  Please notice the little changes in the second verse for the middle and lower parts.

Singabahamba – we need at least 3 people to do the Si Thi bit.  Make sure you practise moving to this!

Tebe Poem – from ‘I malimtisia’.

We touched on Na Mira which I will be doing after half term too so have a crack at them too.  In I’ll Fly Away, let’s really have a sense of yearning in this one.  There is a little solo line which I would love somebody/ies to have a crack at next week, so have a listen. I’ll be seeing how your learning is going on Thursday so keep singing!

Next week: February 15th, is half term. When we come back on the 22nd we will be working on TenThousand Miles, Don’t Fence Me In, Hine and possibly a quick slip through I’ll Fly Away.

Please make a grand ald effort to learn the words to Don’t Fence Me In.

The new venue is great, good facilities and warm. The address is given as 10 Giltspur Street, but please keep going down Newgate Street, past Giltspur Street with the church on your right. Come through the door on Newgate Street and I’ll be there to welcome you!

There is a fab pub next door for afterwards.

VOCALITY CITY SOCIAL:

Irish set-dancing this week Wednesday 15th February. Either meet at the venue (see previous post for full details) or meet me at Highbury and Islington Station by 7.15pm and we will walk over Highbury Fields to the hall. If you want to meet at the station I suggest you e mail so we know to wait for you. Beginner’s class, don’t be shy, lots of fun. No, it’s not riverdance-style, it is partner-dancing a little like a Ceilidh Hope to see you there.
